Chaos Crew Review
Chaos Crew is the original Hacksaw Gaming slot featuring Cranky Cat and Sketchy Skull. Its 5×5 board uses fifteen paylines, but the defining feature is a bonus that builds multipliers above the reels. Street-art monsters and neon colours give it a distinctive look; the high-volatility rules give the game its less forgiving character.
The original Chaos Crew format
The regular board contains a mixture of illustrated creatures, skulls and other unconventional symbols. The layout is fairly large for fifteen paylines, making wild-assisted combinations an important part of the base game.
This review covers the first Chaos Crew, rather than Chaos Crew 2 or Chaos Crew 3. Those later games have their own paylines and features. Similar artwork and returning characters are not a reason to carry their rules back into the original.
Chaos Crew Features
Cranky Cat multiplier wilds
Cranky Cat substitutes for regular paying symbols and carries a 2×, 3× or 5× multiplier in the documented base-game rules. If more than one contributing cat appears on the same line, their values multiply together.
For example, two contributing 5× wilds produce a 25× multiplier for that line's award. This combination of substitution and multiplication gives the cats more significance than an ordinary wild. It also means that simply seeing a wild is not enough: its position and the combination it joins still matter.
A bonus built around reel multipliers
Three scatters start the bonus with three refilling spins. A multiplier is displayed above each reel, and landed cat and skull symbols change those values. Regular skulls add to one reel’s multiplier, while cats multiply it. Their Epic counterparts apply an effect across all reels.
Landing a relevant multiplier symbol restores the counter to three. When the round finishes, the five reel values are added together and the resulting total is applied to the stake. They are not multiplied together at the final settlement.
That last distinction is worth understanding before opening the demo. The displayed values are components of a single bonus award, rather than five ordinary line wins. The round's interest comes from the way additions and multiplications build those components before the counter runs out.
Volatility, RTP and buying the feature
Hacksaw identifies Chaos Crew as highly volatile and lists a 10,000× maximum win. Its public page currently lists RTP configurations of 96.30%, 92.40% and 88.40%. The highest value should not be assumed to describe every casino or demo installation.
A bonus-buy option is part of the game, where enabled. The supplied catalogue rules describe a 129× purchase price and a separate 95.92% buy-feature RTP. Those figures refer to that documented configuration; check the active buy menu and help screen before assuming they apply to another version.
A large maximum and high volatility are separate pieces of information. Neither the feature purchase nor a sequence of unsuccessful spins makes the maximum result due on a later round.
Chaos Crew Pros and Cons
Strengths
- Distinctive Cranky Cat and Sketchy Skull presentation
- Wild multipliers can combine within one winning line
- The bonus has a clear addition-and-multiplication system
Limitations
- High volatility
- Less feature variety in the base game than in later entries
- RTP and buy-feature settings vary by configuration
Our Verdict
Chaos Crew's reel-multiplier bonus is its strongest idea. Addition and multiplication have different jobs, and the Epic symbols give the collection process a clear point of interest. The regular game is much narrower in scope. Players who prefer frequent changes of mode may find the long-term focus on one bonus too limited, while fans of a concentrated multiplier mechanic will understand its appeal.
